Cleric Faults Gov Otti’s Claims On Arochukwu–Ohafia Road

Image
Cleric Faults Gov Otti’s Claims On Arochukwu–Ohafia Road Abia-born cleric, Bishop Silas Eke, has refuted Governor Alex Otti’s claim that the Arochukwu-Ohafia road was built by the former Premier of Eastern Nigeria, Dr. M. I. Okpara. The cleric also questioned the governor’s claim that he was constructing 41KM of the road. It could be recalled that Governor  Alex Otti yesterday flagged off the construction of Arochukwu-Ohafia road, creating Dr. Okpara of constructing road. The governor also accused successive public officials of failing to reconstruct the road. In his reaction to the claim, Bishop Eke in a chat with newsmen on Thursday, kicked against Governor Otti’s claim, saying the governor attempted to vilify others—while making himself a saint. The cleric credited the construction of the Arochukwu—Ohafia road to two great Aro sons, Dr. Ikokwu, and Mr Achinuvu. “Governor Otti is becoming too overzealous. Some of us who voted for him in 20...

Arochukwu-Ohafia Road: Senator Orji Kalu’s Media Office Reacts To Governor Otti’s Speech The Media Office of the lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has reacted to the speech delivered by Governor Alex Otti during the flag-off of the reconstruction of the Arochukwu-Ohafia Highway on August 28, 2024 , at Ebem Ohafia. The Media Office in a statement issued on Wednesday signed by George Maduka said some of the paragraphs of Governor Otti’s speech were deeply concerning to the former Abia state governor. “Firstly, the Governor credited the construction of the road to the administration of Dr. Michael Okpara instead of Dr. Ikokwu of PTF, and his Personal Assistant, Mr Ocha Achinuvu who were instrumental to the construction of the road during their days in the Petroleum Trust Fund. “Under the administration of Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu as Abia State Governor, the Arochukwu/Ohafia Road was resurfaced from Umuahia—Arochukwu.           What Gen-Zs Were Not Told About Abia Under Orji Uzor Kalu From 1999—2007 By S. O. Idika Generation Z (often shortened to Gen Z), is a term used to describe people born during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Some sources give the specific year range of 1997–2012, although the years spanned are sometimes contested or debated because generations and their zeitgeists are difficult to delineate. Lately, members of Generation Z, or Gen Zers, have been undeniably shaped by some events in Nigeria like the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 EndSars protest, and the events of the 2023 general elections. They grew up in the era of the iPhone, which debuted in 2007. Invariably, some (not all) judge by what they read or hear about their leaders. In this article, I attempted to highlight some of the achievements of the former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (1999—2007), who governed Abia State when members of Generation Z were either young or not born. In 2002,...

Revisit: Regional System of Government

Image
Revisit: Regional System of Government Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu We have talked about this many times over the years, the political framework of the country, and that discourse seemed to have reared up its head again during the open sore nationwide protest that further rocked an economy struggling to get out of the woods. That protest asked us, indeed, which political practice we have on the ground that is capable of attending to the multiplicity and complexity of a great country as the country we are positioned to lead and lead aright. Over the years, it has become the same story, whenever there is any form of lopsidedness in any area of the country the part of the country that gets heavily pummeled is always the federal tier of governance, which continue to raises the question of whether we are practising a federal system of government or something in-between we are yet to address conclusively to deal with the kind of reactions we got from the recent nationwide protest. Since our political...
